The room was fantastic, especially that enormous bed, the biggest we’ve ever slept in. The food was excellent quality, though there were only two choices each day. It’s a quiet village with not much to do and the location is a little out of the way, but the views are lovely and the tiny pool is a nice extra. The staff were genuinely helpful and friendly, always willing to do more.

Casa do Santo in Provesende ended up being the favorite part of our ten days in northern Portugal, even with great visits to Porto and Braga. We loved the calm valley views from the pool after wine tasting, and the boutique winery hotel felt peaceful and true to the area. Maria and her team made the stay feel personal and welcoming. We had lovely home-cooked meals at the hotel, and the village restaurant served some of the best food we ate in Portugal. It’s a special place with a lot of charm, and we’d jump at the chance to stay there again.

The evenings were lovely, with the meal of the day and a table positioned just right for taking in the peaceful scenery. My room was roomy, nicely decorated, and a comfortable place to relax. I met so many kind people during my stay, which says a lot about the open, positive feel of the place. The views over the hills are unforgettable, and I felt welcome as soon as I arrived at this family-run B&B in the small village. Maria’s warmth made me feel at home, and Renata’s daily smile deserves a thank you too. Getting to know Maria was a real highlight. I’ll be back.

We spent both evenings having dinner at Casa do Santo, and I’d happily recommend it. The pool was a great place to lounge, and we also visited wineries nearby. The property is small and beautiful, so it feels like you almost have it to yourself. Maria and the staff were wonderfully attentive, and Barco, the property dog, was a bonus. It’s an easy taxi ride from Pinhão train station to the quaint town of Sabrosa. I can see Casa do Santo getting more popular, and I’m already looking forward to returning.

The Quinta is in a lovely, peaceful spot, and the interior spaces are pleasant. Still, a few things left us disappointed. There weren’t mini fridges in the rooms, and the number of sunbeds wasn’t enough for all the guests. We also got charged for items we hadn’t ordered. We’d paid a set dinner price, but a small salad bowl and water were placed on our table without anyone asking, then we were charged €8 for two tomato slices, among other things. Nobody explained the extra charges. At checkout, the host also tried to bill us for drinks left unpaid by previous guests. I wish we’d known about this before our stay.
