The breakfast and general service were personal and discreet during our late February visit, and the food was good quality. The rooms have a classic feel and good marble bathrooms. The artwork and shared spaces are laid out well, though some details feel a little dated. This hotel is in a wonderful spot between a large upland reservoir and the hill country of the lower Beja-Faro district in southern Portugal. It’s away from the tourist areas of southern Europe, a place for rest and travel through what our family calls old Portugal: tradition, a slower pace, simplicity. The architect created low-volume, high-quality accommodation that recalls the Pousssda era. It’s a hotel that needs care and nurturing from the public. Our sincere thanks to the staff.

While vacationing in the Algarve, someone local suggested I visit this rural area with its beautiful large lake. The hotel looks out over the lake.

The view and location are the best, with a full 360° panorama. Breakfast was amazing, and the staff’s kindness was the icing on the cake!

The breakfast was fresh and brought straight to the table, like a seated breakfast, with a satisfying range of choices. The service was excellent too. The staff were candid, and the manager was especially nice and accommodating. When we arrived late, the air conditioning wasn’t cooling because apparently it had to be switched on centrally. The manager came to sort it out in the middle of the night. We stayed three nights in Santa Clara during our Portugal vacation. We had the whole hotel to ourselves for two nights, then other guests arrived. We loved the stay overall. The hotel was nice and the view spectacular. I did think the price was a little high, though that may have been related to occupancy. I won’t get into the hotel’s financial management.

I had to cancel my trip because I got sick, so I called the hotel. Even though my booking wasn’t eligible for a refund, they kindly canceled it and gave me a full refund. I thought that was really nice of them. Thanks again. ❤️
