Santana in Nature Bed & Breakfast

Room 32 was all about the view, with a spectacular patio looking out over the north of Madeira. This little inn is good value, and the restaurant was very good. Breakfast was decent too. The room and hallways were really clean, though the mattresses could use an update. When I first arrived, there was a bit of a musty, sanitary smell in my room, so I opened the outside door and fresh air did the trick. For the price, I had an excellent stay. Especially recommended for that view.

The room wasn’t what we expected. It had no windows and felt a little confining, and there was a strong damp smell whenever we opened the door. The walls were very thin, so we could hear every door opening and closing on our floor. With considerate neighbours you may be fine, but otherwise it could be a rough night. The location is great, just a five-minute drive from restaurants. Breakfast was good, and the service and reception were good too, with great staff.

The restaurant food was really great, and the staff were very friendly. They even offered to pack me breakfast for my early departures. The views from the room were epic.

The bathroom was the biggest problem. It smelled so bad I gagged, even though I’m not sensitive to smells. The staff clearly knew about it when we told them, and advised us to keep the bathroom door shut. We stayed just one night, so it was “fine,” but if you’re staying longer, don’t pay for room nr 1. Check the room first. The room walls are thin too, so you hear EVERYTHING from outside and the neighbours. Earplugs are a good idea, though luckily the hotel is in a quiet area. The location is lovely, with nice views and a peaceful feel. We really enjoyed the jacuzzi looking out over the mountains and sunset, especially after a day of hiking. The restaurant wasn’t anything special and was pretty pricey. We had the chicken skewer, which was nice and tasted good. The stay had its good points, especially the location and jacuzzi, but make sure you check how the bathroom smells before accepting the room.
