Cabanas da Viscondessa

The cabins are very secluded on the mountainside, a few kilometers from Velas. You’ll need a car to get around, though taxis are just a phone call away. We were happy with the accommodation and service, and would recommend the place.

The food at Cafe Zephyr was delicious and clearly prepared with care. We loved staying at Cabanas de Viscondessa: the setting is lush and peaceful, with fresh air that smells of honeysuckle, and our beautiful room had a private deck among the trees. Nivedita was a highlight. She seemed to do everything, from check-in and check-out to serving meals, and was warm, knowledgeable, and a joy to talk with. She shared so much about the area and made us feel very welcome. We also met the lovely owner, Mr. Jorge. We’re so glad we found this special place!

It’s a lovely place to slow down for a few days, surrounded by forest. Jorge was a very welcoming host, and the restaurant team did a great job serving delicious food. We booked breakfast and really enjoyed it, especially the homemade granola. The apartment kitchen was incredibly well equipped, right down to a lemon squeezer and blender. We’d definitely stay again.

Just to be clear, I didn’t stay at the venue, I only had dinner at the restaurant, and this review is about that. The staff were so welcoming and friendly, really attentive and always checking in. It was the best customer service I’ve had in the Azores. The atmosphere was special too, with a beautiful view that got even better as the sun started setting, plus lovely nature all around. Eating outside is well worth it. The wait for the food wasn’t even that long for the Azores, and everything we ate was delicious. This is exactly how a restaurant should be run.
