Casa da Luz

The road and neighborhood dogs can be noisy, which might bother light sleepers unless they use a white noise app or earplugs. Some of us also found the beds less than comfortable, though I know that’s subjective. Those small drawbacks wouldn’t stop me from staying at Casa da Luz again, and I’d happily recommend it to anyone heading to Sao Miguel. Ilda was a welcoming and accommodating hostess for our family. She let us know as soon as check-in was possible and was easy to reach whenever we needed something. The house is conveniently located right by the beach, though there’s no direct way down to it from the back of the house. The outdoor area was relaxing and gave us good privacy. The free public parking lot next door was very convenient, though finding an open space in the evening could sometimes take a bit of luck. The house is handy for Ponta Delgada, Lagoa, and the highways to other parts of the island. We arrived to a generous basket of local food and wine, a lovely surprise that made us feel at home on our first visit to Sao Miguel. We cooked most of our meals, and although the kitchen isn’t huge, it was well equipped once we brought groceries. The free Wi-Fi worked well for our family of five, there were plenty of towels, and the house was in very good condition, well maintained, and immaculately clean. By the end of the week, coming back to Casa da Luz each night felt very comfortable.
