Solar da Bica

We loved setting out on local walks straight from the hotel, some lasting one, two, or three hours, without needing the car. There’s also a good-sized pool and gardens to enjoy during the day. The buffet breakfast was a highlight, with a lovely mix of sweet and savory foods, mostly homemade or picked from the hotel’s own garden. I especially liked the individual teapots. Each morning, the balcony view over the photogenic mountains gave us something to look forward to. The boutique hotel itself feels comfortable and relaxing, and all the staff were genuinely friendly and helpful, always smiling. We’d happily come back. Thank you!

We had a lovely three-night stay. Booking on their website is a good tip, the prices are better there. The room was clean, the beds comfortable, and the viscoelastic pillows were a favorite 😍 Breakfast was delicious, with lots of fresh ingredients from the garden, and everyone on the team we met was really nice and helpful. The pool is on the small side, but it’s plenty for a property this size and a relaxing spot after a hike. Thanks, Solar Bica, for being part of some great Madeira memories.

For anyone who enjoys nature, this hotel can be a great fit, and we enjoyed the unique view and relaxing nights in the mountains. The staff were kind and would come help with any issue or request, even though reception wasn't staffed all the time, which could leave you feeling alone. Breakfast was good, especially the gluten-free pancake. They can provide gluten-free bread too, though it's store-bought. It's useful that during the day and evening you can use the equipment in the breakfast area, so there's no need to go out if you don't want to. Parking was sufficient. The building is old and the toilet system needs renovation. The steps are noisy, but not as frustrating as hearing someone running around on the floor above in other hotels or apartments. The beds and pillows were comfortable. Thanks to the staff for their kindness. I agree with some of the negative comments, too.

We spent a week in a beautiful spot where everything was well organized, the rooms were very clean, and the mountain views were amazing. Breakfast had plenty of choice, all fresh and organic, including tropical fruit from their own garden. Making our own pancakes was fun, and the staff were friendly and attentive to every detail. After a day of hiking, the indoor pool and sauna were a treat. The location also makes it easy to explore the beautiful, green north coast. We definitely recommend it and would stay again.
