Convento da Serta Hotel

The buffet breakfast was a real highlight, with fabulous fruit and plenty of other things we tried. The chef starts preparing it at midnight. The room was elegant and contemporary, with air conditioning, a very comfortable bed and a beautiful Walnut headboard. It was quiet, and we slept really well. The hotel is well placed in Sertã, within walking distance of the historic castle and a beautiful park. There are also several popular restaurants nearby along the river, and parking is free. The concierge Adrien put together a fantastic itinerary of day trips for up to seven days for guests with a car. We took the outing to Monsanto, Idanha-a-Velho, & Penha Garcia. We’d already visited many of the other places in 2021, and he picked the best ones.

The outside pool was a real treat in 95 degree heat, and breakfast had a good mix of hot and cold dishes with an excellent choice of coffee. The rooms were scrupulously clean, too. This beautiful hotel is a former convent full of character. The staff were faultless and went above and beyond to help me get my motorbike fixed, making lots of local calls and arrangements. A very enjoyable stay in a beautiful part of Portugal.

The pool is small, more for a refreshing dip than swimming, and it's not child friendly. The building has been reconstructed very nicely, and it's peaceful, in a great spot in Sertã by the Zêzere.

We stay around 30 days a year in four-star hotels, usually for one, two or three nights at a time in Portugal and Spain, and this has to be the best. Breakfast topped everywhere else we've stayed. There was a great range of fruit, plenty of pastries, local cheeses and meats, eggs made to order, and proper coffee instead of a machine. Staff cleared dishes as we finished, so they didn't pile up. Everyone was very friendly. Check-in was quick, and the gentleman on duty gave us useful tourist information without us needing to ask. We were even shown to our well-kept, clean and comfortable room, which is rare these days. Dinner in the restaurant was wonderful, with good service and reasonable prices. It was busy, so you'd better book. We can't wait to come back!
