The rooms were spotless, though the two small windows let in very little daylight. There also weren’t any sockets by the bed, so we had to charge our phones by the entrance. The shower took at least ten minutes to get hot. Breakfast fell short of what the listing described, with very few choices. The location is reasonably close to the center, but tucked away with little nearby. We also struggled with the reception and parking. Nobody was there when we arrived, so we waited 15 minutes. Check-in gave us access to the private parking, but it’s a closed garage with just two spaces. After parking, we had to wait another ten minutes while they called the person behind us so we could get out. Later, when we came downstairs with questions, the receptionist had left, and no one was available at the desk for the rest of the afternoon or evening.

I don’t get some of the partly negative reviews, especially from my fellow Germans. The interior is a bit dated, sure, but that’s exactly what the booking.com description says. The daily cleaning is very thorough, and the service is genuinely friendly and helpful. You get your money’s worth.

I paid extra for a particular room, but when I arrived they said someone else had booked it just before me, somehow, and gave me a different type instead. That room was okay. The photos make the rooms look nicer than they are, and if you’re counting on using the bathtub, look elsewhere: apparently people stole the plugs, so they removed them altogether. It might be worth it below €70, but I can’t really recommend it.

The location made it easy to get to the sights and restaurants, and the staff were warm and helpful about everything. Breakfast had everything I could want and more. My room was spacious, clean, and comfortable. Fantastic stay, and I’ll definitely come back.

The terraces were a lovely place to have a happy hour after a day out, and the WiFi worked fine there too. The staff were exceptionally accommodating. It’s great value, with a very good breakfast, and the renovation from only five years ago still shows. A handy base for Sintra’s historical “Fairyland” castles and palaces.
