Hotel São Bento da Porta Aberta & Spa

We'd happily stay here again. The hotel is pretty, clean, and the food was really, really good at both dinner and breakfast. Everyone was welcoming, especially the two women who served dinner. They were friendly, funny, and had useful recommendations. We tried the spa too. It's small but still nice, and you have to reserve since it fits four people at a time. There were four of us at first, then just the two of us, which was definitely nicer. You need flip-flops and a shower cap. We had to buy a cap there for €3.50 because we didn't bring one. I only wish they'd offer water and tea in the spa.

We ate at the restaurant twice, and I can definitely recommend it. There was a good range of excellent food and wines. Service was great throughout, and the hotel was well equipped. Our room felt cozy and the bed was comfortable. A couple of things made falling asleep harder: the bed is 1.90 metres long, as the booking description says, so it may feel short if you're tall. We also heard a steady vibration noise from outside the bedroom. Still, I'd warmly recommend staying here while visiting the surrounding area.

The view of the church with the lake or reservoir behind it was lovely, and we had a great time playing pool and sitting out on the balcony. The staff were so friendly and attentive. We only stayed one night and were sad to leave. I'd love to come back.

The hotel is a few kilometres from the centre, with the waterfalls that draw many visitors to Gerês and the other mountain sights within reach. The rooms are fantastic, the staff are well trained and organized, and the service is even better. Dinner was really good too. There isn't an outdoor pool, and breakfast was really poor. There's a spa as well, though we didn't try it. Still, it's a very good place to stay if you want to enjoy the scenery and sights this mountain range has to offer.
