The bathrooms and kitchens were well equipped, the Wi-Fi was excellent, and I really liked the old English style decor. The setting at Quinta do Valle is beautiful, but we’d booked three nights and left after just one. We were eight adults, and a few easy improvements would make a big difference. The double bed for one couple was far too small. In one apartment for four, two beds were meant for children, and one of the adults, who is 1.90 in height, simply didn’t fit. The mattresses could be much better, and the TV was no more than a small computer screen. With bigger, more comfortable beds and a decent TV, this could be a 4-5* place.

The owners were thoughtful and polite, and even let me charge my car. Tomar is nearby, a historic city well worth visiting. The apartments are cozy, with pool and dining areas, and lots of outdoor space surrounded by lovely woods. Definitely one of the best places I’ve stayed. If you’re after somewhere calm and remote, this is it. I recommend it.

We couldn’t sleep properly, so we had to leave. We’d booked for four adults, but two beds were very poor quality and really only suitable for small children. One of the double beds was too small even for two small adults. The old bed frames and extremely cheap mattresses made the lack of comfort hard to ignore. One owner offered no solution and seemed perfectly content for us to leave early. The cleaning lady was the kindest person there, apologizing for something that clearly wasn’t her fault. After 35 years in business, they should know it’s time to invest in new beds.

We stopped here on a drive north from Lisbon, but the rural charm makes us want to return for longer. It’s a beautiful find just off the motorway near Tomar. The host was lovely, and the rooms and buildings are fantastic.
