Hotel Lara

The fortress is just across the road, so the location worked really well for us. The hotel itself felt plain, and the rugs for sale next door and on the steps made the entrance look uninviting. Our room was clean and okay, though noise carried badly through the hallway. We got up early for breakfast, and at that point the coffee was all we cared about.

The location beside the walled fort city was easily the best part, and the man at reception was very helpful. The hotel feels quite dated, the breakfast was just okay, and the Wi-Fi was weak. They say there’s air conditioning, but we didn’t have it, so we had to open the windows and a lot of flies came in. The woman working afternoons seemed to be on the phone all the time for some reason.

The breakfast and the spot right opposite the fortress were the highlights for me. The place is decent enough and I still had a good time, especially with the very nice woman at the counter. Some of the materials and the infrastructure feel a bit cheap and could use upgrading. A laundry service would be a welcome addition. It’s fine for a quick stop to sleep and move on.

The rooms were spacious, quiet, and clean, though dated, and the blackout curtains were great. Reception staff were efficient and friendly, and breakfast was excellent. When we asked the evening before for an early meal on our last day, the kitchen arranged a 6:30am sitting, which we really appreciated. The bar wasn’t always open, so a beer fridge in the room would make the stay better.
