Monte do Sobral

The peaceful setting and incredible surrounding landscape were just what we needed. Everything is well cared for, and the facilities are well preserved. Breakfast was simple, pleasant, and enough for us. We stayed at Lodge Monte do Sobral after a wedding nearby, and choosing it worked out perfectly. The woman who welcomed us was so considerate: she let us check in later and even use the pool after checkout, which was very generous. I’d gladly recommend it to anyone looking for rest, friendly service, and a real Alentejo atmosphere.

It’s a unique, peaceful spot in the middle of nowhere, with lovely lodges. The owner is a very friendly lady who speaks French. Breakfast was good, French-style.

The decor is lovely, and the location is great for relaxing in the countryside while still being close to the city. But the room’s pest protection was really poor, and there were bugs even in the bed. I know it’s the countryside and these little creatures can turn up in many places, but still. The mattress was uncomfortable, and the bedding was much too warm for that time of year. It was also a shame that nobody spoke Portuguese, or at least English.

We ended up leaving after spending the day there, and chose not to sleep at the property. The owner only spoke French and was very unpleasant. There was nobody available to help us explain the problems we ran into: the AC remotes didn’t work, the units kept switching off, and it was horribly cold. There were no hygiene products by the sink either, among other issues.
