The place is right across from the lively old town, in the middle of the port wine area, and the location is lovely. But getting there with lots of luggage means a fair bit of walking, and the metro stop is at the top of the bridge. Check-in was awkward: there was nobody there, just an access code, and I didn't have it at first, so I was left outside a locked door.

The studio was lovely, and the place itself has real charm, but I got the feeling it hadn't been cleaned in quite a while. The welcome and service were impeccable. You're close to the sights, with cafes and restaurants all around, plus lovely walks and a special setting. If you come by car, be aware there's only one free space near the Jardim de Morro metro station, on a little street by a residence and the beautiful Douro River view. Parking elsewhere is expensive.
