Antelope Guesthouse

I’d only suggest staying here if it cost about half as much. The guesthouse feels run-down, and smoking is allowed in all the shared spaces, so they smell pretty bad. My single room was tiny and basic, though it did have a fridge and AC. The old, small shared bathroom worked, but there’s no WiFi at all. Had I known, I probably would have stayed somewhere else. For what you get, it’s overpriced and poor value.

The Bamboo House worked perfectly for our group of five, and we loved our seven nights there. We were in our early thirties, traveling on a mid-range budget, and came to Palau mainly to snorkel and dive. The two showers were a big help when we all came back salty and needed to clean up before dinner. There’s also a freshwater gear-cleaning spot and a locked dry room downstairs, plus a small pool that they keep very clean. Staff were great about arranging transport when we needed it. They said not to drink the water, but a shop about a block away sells gallon jugs for $5. This is an old, locally owned hotel, one of the few, and its age shows, which is why I gave it four stars. They do keep it clean, though. You can’t flush toilet paper, the hot water can be finicky now and then, and there’s general wear and tear. Those things might surprise or bother some travelers from the States, but they were minor for us. The location was handy too, within walking distance of good restaurants, Long Beach park, and most of the main dive shops in Korror, including Sam's, Fish N' Fins, and Paddle Palau. It wasn’t fancy, but it had everything we needed. We’d definitely stay again if we make it back to Palau.

The staff were so sweet and accommodating, and the location made it easy to walk to shops, bars, the boat docks, and a laundromat. The building is pretty, and my small, quaint room had a mini fridge and a tea pot. I was there during COVID, when the pool and bar were closed for safety, so I didn’t get to enjoy them. I hope I can come back and experience the place at its fullest. If I return to Palau, I’ll stay here again.

I had a lovely sea view during my three-night stay. The room was clean and had enough space, and the housekeeper was really friendly. It was a very nice stay, better than I expected.
