Waldorf Astoria Doha West Bay

Our three-bedroom suite was huge, with so much space it felt like a stylish penthouse in the sky. Even the walk-in closets seemed bigger than some hotel rooms I’ve stayed in. The apartment had a fully equipped kitchen, and the staff, from the front desk to the bellboys, felt like family. The location at the northern end of the Corniche put us close to everything. The best beaches in Qatar were a two-minute walk away, and City Centre Mall was a short stroll. There’s a pool, a top-tier gym, and a great view of the Corniche. I could settle in for a longer stay or head out to see the West Bay skyline. And yes, I was still looking for a good fika, Swedish influence and all. Somerset West Bay Doha felt like a comfortable home in the diplomatic district, with a mix of business polish and family comfort. Five stars, and a stay that really levels up a vacation.

I strongly advise against staying here. It feels like a restrictive hostel rather than a professional serviced apartment, with little regard for residents' privacy. Their mixed-gender and visitor-hour policies were used in ways I found harassing. For female residents, male guests aren't allowed in the apartment after 11 pm, and staff will call repeatedly to enforce it. I found this inconsistent with other serviced apartments in Doha. Despite having cleared my guest's stay in writing beforehand, staff repeatedly called me at midnight demanding that the guest leave. They had checked the guest in at 10:50 PM. A rude receptionist wouldn't listen to me and kept repeating that the guest had to leave. Different hotel staff also asked my guests why they were on the premises at different times. The management felt badly mismanaged, and this did not function like the five-star hotel they claim to be. It felt like a hostel in a highly conservative environment. The management was the worst I've experienced among hotels I've stayed at in Doha. Staff didn't read earlier communications until I got agitated. Housekeeping was also a letdown: they arrived at 2:00 PM, said they'd return in three hours, and never came back. The cleaning itself was poor too. My laptop was left on the floor, and pillows weren't picked up after the room was cleaned. This was the first and last time I'd stay here. I'd strongly caution people to read the policies and understand what they're getting into. Other serviced apartments in Doha offer excellent service and amenities for the same price.

I've been at Somerset for almost six months, and it's been a great stay so far. Sir Edwin has been one of the highlights. He greets people with a cheerful disposition, is approachable, and is always glad to help. Kudos to him and all the staff!

I live at this hotel and really enjoy staying here. It's very nice and conveniently located. I'd especially like to thank Sita, the housekeeper, for her outstanding work, attention to detail, and kindness.
