These days, Filaret Station is a busy place, with buses leaving for Greece, Turkiye, and other countries. It's not as modern as some stations, but it works and gets you where you need to go. There's a lot of history here too. Filaret Station has an old-school feel, probably because it's the oldest train station in Bucharest. Romania's first railway ran from here to Giurgiu Port. Next time you're here, take a look around and think about the station's history.
The place feels old and dirty, and I found the taxi drivers more helpful than the information desk. I wish Bucharest's government would tear this ancient building down and put up a modern bus station.
The buses generally leave on time, and getting around the station is easy. I could grab a surprisingly decent cheap coffee, as long as I chose ground beans for 4 lei, about €0.80, and changing money was easy since nearly everyone was willing to do it. Just don't expect more than 4.5 lei per euro, even though the official rate is 4.99. Some staff speak only Russian, but the lack of English wasn't a problem for me. I actually love this battered old building and its deep communist atmosphere. Travelers like me may find it a dream, even if people complain that it isn't a shiny modern station.
It has an old-fashioned feel, and there's nothing fancy about Filaret Station. Still, it works well enough and gets you where you need to go if you're catching the metro.
Getting inside is confusing, since there's no sign outside to identify it as a bus station and it's hard to tell where the entrance is. The whole area feels creepy, honestly the scariest bus station I've ever been to. I'd strongly suggest taking an Uber to get here.
