Hotel Dum by Muskat

I arrived alone at about 1am after messaging several times to say I'd be checking in after the usual 11pm cutoff. The hotel never replied, but the key was waiting on the reception counter, so getting in went smoothly. There was no one at the counter when I checked out either. I had Room 2 on the ground floor, right by reception. Some facilities were a little old, but it was clean enough and the stay was comfortable and decent for the price. There was occasional construction noise outside in the evening. The main downside was the lack of replies to messages or emails on WhatsApp, Instagram, or Messenger.

The air conditioning kept cutting out, and hygiene was poor. There was even a real spider in the room. Staff were hard to find at reception, as if they were in another dimension. This place felt like hell, and leaving felt like being rescued from the fire. If you want a wild stay, this “wonderland” might take you back to Africa and let you experience how people live in a less developed country.

What a scandal. We booked through booking, but first had trouble finding anyone at reception. Someone showed us the rooms without warning us that the air conditioning wasn't working, even though it was reaching 40 degrees those days. After several messages, I tried asking staff in person, but still couldn't find anyone. I eventually found the waiter in the kitchen. He said his manager wasn't there and that there might be problems with the AC. After we insisted, they gave us one fan for two rooms, and it barely helped. The window was blocked too. I'll skip the rest of the unpleasant details. The hotel is old, narrow, has no elevator, and you have to park on the street and pay. The photos don't match. Move on, there are much better places.

We stayed less than a month ago. Like others mentioned, our keys were waiting at an empty reception, but that was fine with us. The room was clean, but the air conditioner barely worked. Over four days, they never changed the towels or cleaned the room, and towels should be changed more often. Still, the staff were all welcoming and pleasant to talk to. They were accommodating and helped us sort out various things. Breakfast was great, and we weren't charged extra for coffee or milk. While we waited for a taxi before leaving, they offered us a glass of wine. For the price, I think it's a great place, down a quiet alley but next to a busy street.
