Scandic Elmia

We stayed one night after booking a four-person pet-friendly room. I called several times both before and after reserving to check everything would be okay, and the hotel confirmed it each time. When we checked in, we repeatedly questioned whether the room was for four, but we had plans and didn’t make time to complain then. We later found they’d moved us to a smaller room without telling us, and there was no extra bedding. When I complained, they said I should have raised it during the stay and that the room type was changed because of the dog. After all those calls to confirm, this was especially frustrating. I’ve stayed at another Scandic before where, after confirming a room type, they later contacted me themselves to apologize that it wasn’t available and explain what they could offer instead. A paying guest who already took several steps to secure the right room shouldn’t have to carry the burden of sorting this out. Given the staff’s customer service and what felt like deception, I can’t recommend this hotel.

We loved our stay here as a family of four. The hotel felt very family friendly, especially with little kids running around the breakfast area. Breakfast was included, really delicious, and had a diverse range of high-quality food. The sauna was included too, and felt refreshing and relaxing. Kids also get a free voucher for a bar drink, which tasted amazing. I’d definitely recommend it.

The kids loved having a swimming hall close to the hotel, and the ice coffee at breakfast was a nice surprise. Our family room was clean and nice, with its own terrace opening onto the yard. It got quite hot, though, since there was no air-conditioning. This is the only hotel so far where using the shuffleboard cost extra, 50SEK.

The rooms are Scandic class, with comfortable beds and what you need. You can hear everything in the hallway, though, and it sounds like someone is coming into your room. Breakfast was nice with plenty to choose from, and the staff were service minded. I wouldn’t recommend eating at the hotel: it’s expensive, lacks taste, and wasn’t worth the money. The bar looks nice, though I didn’t spend any time there. If you’re going to Elmia or a hockey game at HV71, this is a good hotel.
