Acco Hostel

The private room was cramped and the bed uncomfortable, but the worst thing was finding bedbugs. We told the hostel and hope they'll clean the room properly. The shared bathroom was another nightmare, it smelled bad, had mould, and only two toilets for everyone. Everything felt small, old, ugly, and uncared for. It was very noisy too, with paper-thin walls and no sound insulation, so we heard everything from other rooms and the street. Even as budget accommodation, they should keep up with cleaning and maintenance. Definitely wouldn't recommend it.

Staff were really friendly and helpful. Our 12-bed room was small but okay, though there wasn't room for luggage, so we had to use the luggage room. The kitchen was tiny and not very clean, and had no stove, only two microwaves and a kettle. We cooked outside with our camping gear. That worked, but it wasn't ideal.

If you're trying to travel as cheaply as possible, it's passable. The staff were kind, and there was a kitchen and laundry machine. But it wasn't very clean, the rooms were small, and the place smelled of cigarette smoke. I think a guest may have been smoking inside, against the rules, though I don't know if they were kicked out. The location felt unsafe to me and was far from the city center. I also had to pay extra for linens, a fee that wasn't in the regular price or mentioned on the site I booked through.

At €50 a night, it's cheap, and the beds were comfortable, though the pillows weren't. The location is decent and central. Still, this was the worst hostel we've stayed in. The photos make it look much better kept than it is, with peeling paint and stained walls. Our private room was freezing because the windows were drafty and the sheets thin. There was a tiny, cheap-looking heater, but nobody told us about it and I didn't feel safe leaving it on overnight. The walls are paper thin, so you hear the next room and hallway, and noisy groups aren't asked to quiet down. Bathrooms were often occupied, with seemingly only two shared by all the rooms. Communication was poor. Reception has odd hours, and after we called and messaged during the stated times, we waited five hours for a reply. Before arriving, we got no clear information about facilities, and check-in instructions were confusing. The owners keep posting on Facebook looking for people to work for free. It also seems nobody local wants to work for them, since their paid job ads are always aimed at hiring from abroad. If you can't afford somewhere else, you can manage here. Otherwise, avoid it. In reply to the response: we contacted staff during the stated WhatsApp and phone hours. Either way, having no staff available all day isn't good, as they themselves admit. It's hard to believe staff can't hear people shouting at full volume, unless they're not at the property, which is a problem on its own. Staff can't control how many people need the toilets, but the hostel should provide enough for guests when fully booked. I don't see how several guests are supposed to use bathrooms with a single toilet at the same time. Are they expected to crouch on the floor? 🤔 They didn't address the poor upkeep, drafty windows, or lack of sound insulation, or say whether they're working on any of it. Yes, the reservation was under my gf's name, which is why I wasn't on the list, though my name was in a message to them. Suggesting I never stayed there is ridiculous when many other guests have reported the same issues.
