Ängby Camping

We paid a lot for two nights in a tent, and the worn, old washrooms and extra charge for showers made it feel poor value. On the first, very rainy night, I hung my raincoat in the shower room to dry. By morning it was gone. The receptionist said theft was common and advised against leaving anything unattended. I later read other reviews describing similar experiences. There are also many homeless people living in trailers there around the clock. What kind of campsite charges for a stay where you can’t even feel safe? This was one of my worst camping experiences. Avoid it if you can.

I’ve been staying here for a week, and it’s a really nice place. The staff are great, the service-house toilets are clean, and it’s cheap to live here. There are mostly older visitors from Germany and Norway. It’s close to the subway, though being beside an active road makes it a bit noisy. I’m fine with that. The WiFi is okay, not amazing, but I downloaded a 6.7-gig Ubuntu image in 45 minutes. Plus, cold beer is available at an okay price, 3.5, or there’s a restaurant by the beach where a beer is 88kr.

We had a good one-night stay. I liked being close to nature and the beach for swimming. I was a little taken aback to find that showers weren’t included in the price.

The cabin was comfortable, with space outside for a table and benches. I also liked the calm, relaxed atmosphere, the leafy forest setting, helpful staff, chips, and clean showers and toilets. It’s a ten-minute walk to a metro into the city. I’d be glad to come back. The two small annoyances were the shop closing early, at 6pm instead of 9pm, for two days over Midsummer, and a toasted ham and cheese sandwich that wasn’t toasted, just warmed, and used the hard end slice of the loaf. I understand the holiday closure, but visitors from outside Scandinavia and the Baltic region should have been told more clearly. A mention when I came by for breakfast supplies would have helped. We missed dinner entirely on Midsummer Eve and went to bed hungry. The sandwich went in the bin.
