Scandic Plaza Umeå

It feels like the hotel has been abandoned. The rooms and furniture are old, and there’s no heat. What a disappointment.

The rooms are run-down and badly dated, and they get cold at night. The thermostat seems to be just for show. The pillows are poor, and housekeeping only comes if you ask. There are three other nearby hotels at the same price or less that are much nicer. Avoid this one.

The location is great, the restaurant is good, and the staff are friendly. The rooms, however, are worn and outdated, and the bathroom feels a bit dirty and unwelcoming. If you visit in summer and can tolerate 26 degrees in the room, you might manage a night or two. I checked in, had dinner, then checked out. I won’t pay for a hotel room in 2024 that’s 26 degrees inside, especially in central Umeå. The staff understood and gave me a full refund. The hotel badly needs a complete remodel and air conditioning. This was my first and last visit until renovations happen. Scandic used to be consistently good, but that’s no longer the case.

My room was spacious, spotless, and had a lovely river view. I also really liked the decor and the cozy lounge, arranged around a fireplace. The breakfast buffet had a great range of choices. The location was very good, and the staff were kind enough to let me use some facilities well before check-in. For all that, the nightly price felt fair.
