First Camp Västerås – Mälaren

The beach grass needed a cleanup, with bird droppings and feathers scattered around, and there was broken wood in the water by the bridge on the left side that someone could accidentally step on. Aside from that, we had a great afternoon with friends: we played a round of adventure golf, cooled off with a swim, and finished with pizza at the restaurant. The food was awesome and dessert was nice too. It was handy having everything close together, and they let us get some water from the restaurant even though they didn’t know we’d be eating there later.

We came from Stockholm for two days at Christmas, but the house we were given looked old and was completely different from the new house shown in the photos we booked from. We were so disappointed that we went straight back home and didn’t stay there at all. I told their call centre what happened, but they didn’t return any of the 2300 sek we had paid. Our Christmas was ruined, though we were able to head back home right away.

The lake access and all the surrounding grass were lovely, and even with the busy Midsummer crowds, the place stayed peaceful. Our cabin was simple but had everything we needed. The restaurant is worth a visit, the kenab tallrik was the best I’ve tasted, with amazing sauces. Västerås is close, and buses run from the train station every 30 minutes. I’d happily recommend it.

The bathrooms and showers worked fine, though they weren’t very clean. We spent one night in a tent at the lakeside campsite, which was nice, but it’s a bit of a trek from the city centre.
