Alma House

The room at Alma House was spacious and had all the essentials, and the location was great. I stayed five days and had a very good experience. All my conversations with the staff were pleasant and friendly, and they sorted out everything I asked about. Adli went above and beyond. I’d recommend the place, with just two things to improve: there’s no proper cupboard, which could be inconvenient on a longer stay, and the windows need a better way to open to let in fresh air.

Alma House is in a lifestyle complex with popular restaurants, coffee shops, and a grocery store. Our room was a good size and had a washing machine, and we really enjoyed our week there. Mr. Adli was especially helpful. When we mentioned at check-in that we needed to get to KL the following Sunday, he later messaged us that the room was ready and had also looked up bus lines with availability on our travel day. We booked the one he suggested and really appreciated the help. A great experience.

We really enjoyed our stay for Grand Prix weekend. The staff were nice and helpful, and the room was clean and tidy with great air conditioning, which was essential. New Bahru has a really good cafe, PPP Coffee, a decent sized supermarket, and several other places to eat, drink, and shop. It’s also handy for buses and the subway, with Fort Canning station a 10-minute walk away. Robertson Quay is five minutes on foot, and Clarke Quay is 15 minutes away. Highly recommended.

Robertson Quay being nearby was the only real plus. My family and I stayed at Alma House and found the experience genuinely bad, especially for the price. I wouldn’t recommend it to families, and would advise reading reviews carefully before booking. Late at night, finding the check-in counter and apartment in New Bahru was extremely confusing. There was no clear signage, and getting around with luggage and kids was frustrating. The room looked nothing like the photos. Staff later said the unit was an “alternate” version of what had been advertised, which felt misleading. The bedding was uncomfortable, amenities were missing, and there wasn’t even any tissue paper. The kitchen was technically there but not usable. The trash bin was tiny and rubbish wasn’t cleared daily. Laundry detergent cost extra. Whenever the air conditioning was on, there was a sewage smell near the entrance. The bathroom was poorly designed for a so-called family unit: one bathroom for up to six people, no separation between shower and toilet, just one floor mat, and nowhere to hang towels. Housekeeping seemed superficial, as the floors stayed dirty, and there was no proper place for shoes. Checkout was the worst part. They held a large deposit, then charged me for a stained towel via WhatsApp after I’d already left. There was no inspection or discussion. Completely unacceptable.
