Amrise Hotel

I booked a one-night stay on 1 feb 2026 for a friend. At check-in, the front desk insisted the booking was only for five hours, from 4pm to 9pm, even though my booking details showed check-in on 1 feb and check-out on 2 feb. I argued about it, and he showed us the details on his side but still insisted it was just five hours. I sent feedback through the amrise hotel website, but nobody has got back to me. I called again this morning and asked for someone senior to respond, but still heard nothing. They won’t refund me in full either. This is really bad.

The location was excellent for getting around on foot with our baby in the stroller. There are lots of restaurants nearby, including one just a few steps from the hotel. A 24-hour Sheng Siong grocery store is a three-minute walk away. As a tip, two 1.5L bottles of water cost $1.50 if they aren’t chilled. The MRT station is about 700 meters away, with a delicious restaurant nearby as well. The room was comfortable, with strong aircon, two water bottles provided each day, and housekeeping on request. We stayed four nights with our 1-year-old and felt safe the whole time, despite it being a short-stay hotel. The Wi-Fi is a bit slow.

At check-in, a polite older gentleman answered our questions about nearby eateries and gave us an adaptor for our devices. Let’s call him Dr. Checkyll. The next morning, we needed toilet paper and toiletries and met a much younger, grouchier Mr. Hide, who seemed to sleep on the couch most of the time and couldn’t be woken. At other times, he’d run into the backroom to avoid requests. Mr. Hide said checkout was 10:00AM with no exceptions and late fees. Later, Dr. Checkyll said we could check out at noon or even 1:00PM without extra fees. The room had no window, the bed was too soft, but the hot water worked. For the price, it was acceptable. The location was fine, not far from the MRT Station, and let us see some residential Singapore and try non-tourist local eateries. The service was unacceptable, plain and simple, despite Dr. Checkyll. If you decide to stay, there are some nice restaurants nearby. For breakfast, I recommend Food Yo. For dinner, head to Geylang Road for some great South Asian options.

There was mold everywhere, on the walls, floors, beds, chairs, bathroom, and even on the bedsheets, which didn’t look like they’d been changed. The rooms smelled musty and had almost no ventilation. This place seems like a serious health hazard, and I don’t understand how it’s still in business or meets any health and safety guidelines. The rude staff made it a mental health hazard too. Don’t let the location tempt you into risking your health.
