Villa Samadhi Singapore by Samadhi (SG Clean Certified)

The bed was fantastic, the staff were great, and it was very clean. It’s a lovely quiet retreat, with a connection to Labrador Park and Tamarind Hill for fantastic Thai food. A unique experience, and I’d come back once the pool is open. The Library could be more engaging, maybe with a more exciting tea break set, so guests can enjoy the beautiful architecture and surroundings and get a full five-star experience.

The complimentary breakfast was the weak point. The hot drinks and fresh juices were excellent, but the food wasn’t hot enough, and both the sunny-side-up and poached eggs were a bit overcooked. Having it outside at Tamarind Hill, looking out at the greenery, helped make up for that. We spent three nights in the Rustic Crib to celebrate our wedding anniversary, and it was a relaxing break from work and city life. The spacious bathroom had a large wooden tub. The rooms have air conditioning, while common areas use ceiling fans. We appreciated the No-Child Policy, since it meant no crying or running kids in the corridors or next door. The vintage furnishings, architecture, and dense greenery gave the place the resort feel you’d expect somewhere else in Asia. The staff were all genuine, polite, and a joy to deal with. Jaya made us feel welcome and comfortable as soon as we arrived. It’s sad this was her last week at the villa, since she’d be a strong reason for us to return. The resort was clean and there were hardly any insect issues. Wifi was poor, but that’s understandable in a nature reserve and should be fine if you’re here to relax and get away from work. We also enjoyed afternoon tea outside our room and the daily Signature Turndown Service, with delicious dark chocolate and a small serving of red wine. We’re glad we chose Villa Samadhi, and grateful to the staff for making the stay so lovely.

The restaurant food and drinks were sumptuous, and the chef handled both local and international dishes well. Service was awesome, too. The team really wants to make your stay as comfortable as possible. It’s a beautiful forest setting where you can hear birds and cicadas. Nature parks are close by, and the MRT is a five-minute walk away. This would be my place next time I visit Singapore. A great spot to relax for a while.

The staff were excellent, but I was glad this was just a one-night stay before flying home. The hotel has a colonial style and badly needs updating. There’s no lift, so with lots of luggage we had to haul it upstairs. There were ants in the bathroom, though a note did warn us about them. Getting to the restaurant and breakfast means climbing lots of steps, crossing a wobbly bridge, then climbing more steps. Breakfast was OK, but there’s no buffet, unlike everywhere else, and it’s outdoors in humid weather with most fans not working. The pool looked awful, as did the mouldy wooden chairs and two beds. We also walked in the national park connected to the hotel, but it was full of rough sleepers. The TV only had six channels, two of them duplicates.
