Footprints Hostel

The room was small and breakfast basic, but it’s a great deal for the included price. Communication was quick and pleasant, and check-in was easy and possible earlier than stated. Staff were quite friendly, though sometimes they paid more attention to their phones. The showers on the second floor weren’t very clean. The ceiling was quite moldy, but there was no problem with the smell. Rooms were great, though the lockers were too small for backpacks. All in all, Footprints was a good choice.

The staff were really cooperative, and breakfast was included. It could work for a solo traveler on a tight budget. The location is convenient, with lots of restaurants and two metro stations nearby. The dorm air conditioning only ran at night and still didn’t feel strong enough, and the washrooms could have been cleaner.

It was a decent deal, but my stay ended on a bad note. A day before checkout, even though the date was clearly on my bed tag, the cleaners dismantled my bed. Items I’d left out were missing: an $80 microfiber towel, a $45 travel pillow, sandals, socks, and sunglasses. Reception said the cleaners hadn’t seen anything. Someone had also gone through my bag and left clothes hanging out, although everything in my locker was untouched.

The staff were friendly and helpful when issues came up, and the shared showers and bathrooms were kept fairly clean. The hostel is near a subway station, so getting around the city was easy, though the neighborhood itself wasn’t great. Our 10-bed mixed dorm was basic, with lockers that needed your own padlock. The air conditioning didn’t do much, and the room stayed hot at night. Breakfast was toast, somewhat stale cereal, and free hot drinks. WiFi was weak, and the laundry was both poor and expensive. We paid S$12 a night, if I remember right, including breakfast. It was cheap enough, but I can see nicer hostels nearby and would try one of those next time I’m in Singapore. Still, it was decent value.
