HipsterCity Hostel

The hostel felt chaotic, with people sleeping wherever they wanted and no staff control. I’d paid extra for a larger, better bed, but someone else was using it when I arrived. They offered no compensation and acted as if it wasn’t their problem. They also kept my deposit and never returned it, despite several messages and follow-ups. Staff ignored me completely, with no reply or update. After that, the whole place felt like it cared about taking money without providing what I’d paid for. An absolutely terrible experience. Avoid this hostel at all costs. They might keep your deposit and ignore you too.

A very good shared-room hostel option compared with others, and highly recommended. The private space below the bunk is what I liked most. You can change clothes, work, pack, or even pray there, which other shared-room hostels usually don’t provide. The communal living room is comfortable and has coffee, tea, a water dispenser, fridge, and charging spot. They even provide shoe fragrance. The location is strategic, about a 5-7 minute walk from a bus stop and MRT. The bathroom is small and cramped. I also had to wait for my room to be ready after checking in at 7pm, even though it should have been ready in the afternoon.

The hostel smelled damp and unpleasant, and constant loud noise came from outside the windows. It was uncomfortable to stay there. The bed advertised as a double was actually a single, nearly impossible for two people to sleep on. We arrived and couldn’t check in for almost an hour because there were no staff onsite to help. Instead, we had to download an app, navigate a confusing interface, upload personal details, pay a 20-euro deposit, and work it out ourselves. The process was unclear and extremely inconvenient. Once we finally got upstairs, our paid three-bed room was occupied by other guests, who said “everyone just takes any bed they want.” We had to argue to get them to leave. They left a mess, and we had to move into a dirty room. They never returned our deposit. We messaged for two weeks, and at first they promised to sort it out. Then they started ignoring us. The service was terrible. Nothing like the photos, and an absolutely awful place. Don’t stay here.

The hostel itself is beautiful for a capsule-style place, with good privacy, and the toilets and shower room were spotless. But the nearby nightclub blasts music from 11pm until after 2am, with a DJ shouting over it. The sound carries right into the room, and earplugs don’t help. Somehow I hear the music even louder with them in. If you need some peace to fall asleep, this is an utter nightmare. They say nightlife, and they really mean it. Too bad about the club, because I won’t return.
