The staff are welcoming and accommodating, and there’s a 24-hour food court downstairs. For the price and location, I’d call it a decent hotel. Just keep in mind it’s a 3-star place: the rooms feel old and worn, but they’re generally maintained and fairly spacious. They come with a kettle and fridge, and the aircon cooled well. Some bathrooms have an updated bidet and shower/bathtub, though the tiling is old. Fresh curtains and a new coat of paint would help.

The room was clean, dated, and fairly priced, and the location was good. The air conditioner, though, dripped noisily all night and left large puddles of water. This clearly wasn’t a one-time issue, since the wall plaster was badly soaked over time. It’s hard to recommend a place that lets guests into a room already dripping.

The location is nice, with a nearby food court offering plenty of choices, and the staff and service were good. But the room never got cool enough, even with the air conditioning set to 16 degrees, and I could sleep without getting under the blanket. The WiFi connection in the room was also very weak. It’s cheap for some people, but I didn’t find it great value for the money.

The food options nearby are a big plus: the first food stalls are just around the corner, and Geylang Serai Market and Haig Road have more stalls and shops within walking distance. Shopping malls and grocery stores are a few minutes farther on, so you can find what you need close by. The rooms were comfy, clean, and cozy, and the staff were friendly and helpful. Really worth staying at Hotel 81 Tristar when visiting Singapore for a holiday!
