The staff at the counter were friendly. I wasn't expecting much because the building is old, and the cleanliness was okay, though I did spot a few small cockroaches. They didn't bother me much. There were complimentary bottles of water and 3-in-1 coffee mix.
I was pleasantly surprised by the Compass. We arrived in town after everything else was booked, and I hadn't had high hopes. It's an old place, but comfortable, clean, and friendly. For Singapore prices, it was a real bargain. It's no Ritz, but there's an echo of former glory, and the staff are very helpful.
It's fairly cheap, so the condition was okay for the price. I stayed during the F1 GP in 2019. The whole hotel, including my room, smelled like a smoker's place, and the furniture and TV were in bad shape. When I turned on a bed lamp, it fell and broke. I assume it hadn't been fixed properly before, but I had to pay for it.
It was affordable and suited budget travellers well. The rooms were clean, and the bathroom was nice. I also really liked how kind the staff were. They gave me gifts from the front desk for my birthday.
The hotel was good enough for me, and the staff were kind and humble. They helped us a lot when my friend got sick during our stay. We also got mineral water and coffee. The hotel itself was in decent condition. It's somewhat far from the MRT station, though not too far from a food court and supermarket. Aljunied station is the nearest MRT, and there's also a bus stop near the hotel.
