The room and washroom were clean, breakfast was good for a traveler, and the staff member we saw was cheerful and always smiled and greeted us. But late at night I saw a male staff member smoking and drinking in the reception area, despite the no smoking and no drinking signs. The staff need better discipline.

We left two days early and moved to another hostel because we couldn’t stay any longer. The staff were kind and welcoming, but the hostel itself left a lot to be desired. The location was convenient for the underground, and that was one of the few positives. The website photos gave us the impression of a much cleaner place. We booked a “room,” but it was a pair of bunk beds separated by curtains, with people snoring just centimeters away. On the top bunks the curtains didn’t reach the wall, so I could see someone from another group sleeping. The curtains couldn’t be closed or locked properly, and a group next to us kept coming into our section by mistake. It felt generally unclean. I found hairs on my pillowcase when we arrived, so it seemed it hadn’t been washed since the previous guests. There was also constant noise from snoring, late arrivals, and people showering at ridiculous hours.

Fine for a one-night stop, and the place was clean with friendly staff and good door security. Still, it feels a bit run down, especially the bathroom and shower. Breakfast is basic, just make-your-own toast with jam and tea or coffee in a cramped first-floor kitchen.

The owner is friendly and very hospitable, and that’s a big reason I keep coming back. I’ve stayed here many times and know what to expect from an open-concept backpackers hostel. It’s affordable, low-budget, and easy for a quick stay, with a nice decor, a cool dining area, accessible transport, food options around the clock, and a decent bed for sleeping. You do have to remember that a hostel brings together people from all walks of life. Some are considerate and self-aware, and others aren’t. It isn’t a five-star luxury hotel, and some reviews feel biased and one-sided. When I’ve had an issue with the facilities or amenities, I’ve just spoken to the receptionist or owner and they’ve fixed it for me. Don’t let reviews, including mine, decide for you. Try it yourself and make up your mind. If you’re unsure, contact the hostel before booking.

Finding the hostel was easy, even arriving late at night, thanks to the self check-in instructions from the staff. It was clean, well kept, and centrally located, with really good value for the price. Such an easy, pleasant stay. Thanks, Indie Hostel! I’d stay again.
