I love Singapore, though it isn’t cheap, and this place gives you value and a fantastic location. I’m not bothered by the noise from the road’s many bars and restaurants, and the dorm smell is noticeable but just like men’s feet and trainers. It doesn’t bother me. For me, the main things when travelling are security, cleanliness, location, air conditioning, and WiFi. The lockers were fine, there’s a key code to get in from outside, the sheets and pods were fine, the AC was brilliant and always on, and the WiFi was very good even in the pods. Check-in wasn’t a problem as long as you’re organised, I found the place easily, and someone was at the desk when I arrived. They were also extremely accommodating with my luggage before check-in and after check-out. My only criticisms are that the washroom is small and the floors are often wet from the tumble dryer being on constantly, and there’s no general socket or USB-C connection in the pods. And I laugh at some of these reviews. Jesus, wise up, this isn’t the Marina Bay Sands. You get what you pay for. Big shout out to Silvie, who was very helpful with my luggage and other things.

The washer and dryer were nice, and this is a good budget option. But in the outer capsule, other guests overloaded the outlet connected to my pod, and the power went out. I was left in the dark all night. The hotel should clearly tell guests not to use outlets assigned to other capsules so this doesn’t happen again.

The room smelled bad, the AC wasn’t very cold, and the bathroom was tiny and unclean, with a strong toilet smell. There was no power socket in the bed, and the curtain hook on the right had fallen off. When I reported it, the staff got annoyed instead of fixing it and asked why I didn’t move the middle hook over myself. I paid to stay there, so I shouldn’t have to repair things. Before check-in, I asked by email if I could drop off my luggage early. They told me to message on arrival for the door code. I did, then waited nearly two hours outside with my luggage for a reply and the code. The passport handling bothered me most. The hostel had asked me to email my passport details the day before, which I did. But while I was asleep after checking in, a female staff member around 50 or older came to my bed, woke me loudly, and asked for my passport again so she could photograph it. When I said I’d already emailed it, she replied something like, “Even if I have your passport, I don’t know which bed you’re sleeping in.” Their process seemed disorganized, and I was the one disturbed. It was a bad experience.

The AC works well and the location is good if you want to be near the bars. But there are no outlets in the pods, the lockers don’t work, and the bed shade won’t stay closed. Bathrooms are nasty, so bring shower shoes. There was no staff around and no working phone number to call for help. It was very loud from the bars on the floor below, and the room was crammed with bags everywhere. There were 16 bunks in a room that shouldn’t have had more than 12. The bedsheets were stained, and at 6ft 1in my toes hit the wall when I lay straight. If none of that is a deal breaker, then I highly recommend! Whoever owns this property clearly doesn’t care about it.

I was there in 2017 and remember liking my stay. The room had hardly any room to walk around, but there are much worse places to stay in the world, even in the West. I assume most of the bad reviews come from people who don’t stay in backpackers or hostels often. The location was excellent, and I remember the price being reasonable for inner-city Singapore. It worked well as a base for sightseeing for a couple of days. I’m not sure if it’s still offered, but I believe there was free cereal and breakfast stuff when I stayed. The place doesn’t seem to have changed.
