RedDoorz Hostel @ Hong Kong Street

Read the newest reviews carefully. The location is great, but I found it unsettling that the main entrance had no lock. The shared toilet and shower facilities were poorly designed and offered little privacy. I was glad to be there for only two nights. I can't imagine a fully booked stay being comfortable.

The room was roomy and clean, and the location is handy for shops, food and transport. For the price, that part worked well. But the bathroom areas needed cleaning, and the shower cubicle was cramped, had nowhere to put clothes, and only a thin sliding metal door between it and the public foyer. There was no ventilation, so it got stuffy fast. The foyer is reached by a long flight of stairs and doesn't lock, which felt like a security concern. My room (E) faced a street full of bars, pubs, restaurants and traffic, so it was noisy even early in the morning. With no reception, getting a repair or cleaning request answered took a while. It was okay for the price and location, but the foyer needs another lock and housekeeping needs attention.

I used my credit card only to book the room and had provided its number at the time. Nearly a year later, multiple charges in different currencies added up to $2000. I was able to trace them back because that booking was the only time I had used the card.

A private, comfortable place that doesn't cost much.
