Maestral Residence

We couldn’t find a space in the tiny parking area, so we had to park somewhere else and pay. The room smelled awful and was very old, which we could have accepted, but it was filthy and full of spiders, ants, centipedes, and other insects. There was mold in the shower too. It was bad enough that we booked another hotel. Definitely don’t recommend this place.

The terrace view was breathtaking, and although the place isn’t luxurious, it was clean. We’d accidentally booked an extra room, but the women at reception helped sort out the mistake instead of simply charging us for it. It was great.

For the price, the quality felt low, especially since we were there in June before high season. Our economy room had no AC, just a small fan. The room was big enough for my girlfriend and me, and the staff were kind. The sea is a fair way down from the residence, which sits higher up, so the walk back is about 15 minutes uphill. Breakfast food can run out quickly, so get there early. I’d recommend staying if it were closer to the sea and a bit cheaper.

This was the worst stay I had in all of Slovenia. I was there for a couple of nights during a 2.5-week trip, but I’d tell people not to go. I’d met plenty of kind, helpful people on the trip, but not here. I had a serious injury and couldn’t manage the steep uphill and downhill walk to the hotel. The ocean may be only 400 m away, but that’s 400 m up a very steep hill. My wound started bleeding again, so I had to leave early to see a doctor. The receptionist first said she’d find a way to refund me, and another receptionist also promised to refund the last two nights when I left. They didn’t. They made excuses, including that a refund wasn’t possible because I’d paid by Visa. As far as I know, they could have transferred the money, paid cash, or put it back on the card if they wanted to. The room was very small, there were insects all over the floor, the bathroom smelled horrible, and the toilet flush didn’t work properly. I couldn’t open the window because it was always noisy outside.
