Lipizzaner Lodge Guest House

The home-cooked dinner with local wine and beer was a highlight, served in a dining room with a cozy, old-fashioned feel. The rooms were above average, and there’s parking on site, so it felt like very good value. Chris and Hanna know the region and the country well, and they went out of their way to improve our travel plans. They even helped sort out an issue that needed some post office expertise. Outside, the grounds and patio are charming, with views of the stables and Lipizzaner horses, plus friendly Siamese cats. If you're exploring this area, this is a place I’d be glad to stay at again.

We started each day with a delicious lodge breakfast before heading out on morning bike rides, then spent the afternoons sightseeing and finished with some excellent meals out. Chris has plenty of GPS routes, including hidden spots around Slovenia, and his cycling suggestions made it easy to enjoy the rides. Chris and Hannah have clearly put a lot of love for Slovenia into the lodge. Their tips for activities, restaurants, bike rides, and more made the stay feel both like an adventure and like being at home. The building is lovely, and the gardens are a relaxing place to spend time when your schedule allows. We were welcomed with tea and a chat, and it was hard to leave. After more than 30 countries, this was our favorite stay. Chris and Hannah were wonderful hosts, and Chris went out of his way to plan a trip around what we wanted, sharing local secrets along the way. I’d leave the schedule open so you can make the most of his ideas. The location works brilliantly, with Predjama castle within walking distance, Lipica nearby, and the motorways close enough for getting around the country. It's been more than ten years since I came across this place while in Slovenia for a month-long military exercise, and I still miss the people who brought me here. After days of playing soldier, each evening was a treat. I had to leave before breakfast, but there was always a little bag of breakfast goodies outside my door. On weekends, we had planned adventures. They were such welcoming, lovely people. When the world feels like too much, I know there’s a place where I can rest and feel at home. We miss the magic. My boys still talk about the best food they had while traveling around Europe. Thank you, and may you have many more adventures and lots of happiness. If you’re coming from America, bring your hosts some Reese’s peanut butter cups. You might find a bottle of local honey outside your door.
