Hotel Danubia Gate

The location was good, breakfast was great, and the staff were very friendly. There's a fantastic Pivovar just across the street. The bathroom wasn't very clean, though, and the walls are so thin we could hear someone snoring in the next room. An okay hotel.

We'd stayed here before and were satisfied, which is why we came back. This time we booked a triple room and got a cold, poorly maintained room on the first floor with serious hygiene problems. It was so cold the staff had to bring an extra electric heater. The bathroom was dirty, the bathtub had permanent stains, and the toilet was unstable. We saw the room right after check-in and contacted both reception and Booking that same day, but still had to stay there for the first two nights and were offered no solution. When we complained, we were told this happened because we booked through Booking, rather than anyone taking responsibility. They also said the upper floors are “four-star” and the lower floors “three-star,” an interesting idea of rating a hotel by floor. The room and the way we were treated were both disappointing. We don't recommend this place.

The breakfast room is small, but the coffee from the proper machine was very good, and the food was good quality Slovak stuff. We chose this hotel for its proximity to the National Theater and were happy with that choice. The city center is only a couple of minutes away on foot. Our room was a good size, and even on the first floor we barely heard street noise. The AC stood out as soon as we entered because it was very loud, though by the time we visited we didn't really need it. The carpet had seen better days too.

The city center is within walking distance, with plenty of shops and cafés around, so the location is good. It's a small city, though, and there aren't many bad locations anyway. This is a nice little hotel with great service, comfortable rooms apart from the mattress, and a great breakfast. The parking spots take good parking skills, but otherwise they're quite okay.
