Devin Hotel

I especially want to mention the massage at the spa. The young massage therapist gave me an excellent one, and I highly recommend it. I recently finished my stay and really liked everything. It was a bit cold at times, but the experience overall was very pleasant.

The location is excellent, the front desk staff are professional and helpful, and the gym is adequate. Breakfast was good, and I'd rate the restaurant food 7/10. But smoking at Cafe Devin makes it impossible for nonsmokers to sit there. The air is diluted and cleaned on a large scale, yet the smell clings terribly to your clothes. Restaurant service was a little annoying, constantly taking or asking for your plate whether you were eating, talking, or neither. This happened at lunch, dinner, and breakfast. It's overpriced, and there are no smart TVs in a 4star hotel.

The receptionist was super polite and friendly and really tried to help, so I don't blame her personally. But the hotel wouldn't do anything about the extra room I ended up paying for, and didn't offer the welcome drinks for it or even cancel the extra breakfast. I won't be back, and I'd recommend they stop working with hotelvalues. I booked through hotelvalue, then found a better offer on booking and canceled the hotelvalue reservation just minutes later. I clicked the cancel button on the platform and it said the cancellation was successful, but I didn't check for a confirmation email. When we arrived, the receptionist said we'd booked two rooms. I explained what happened, and she said she'd speak to the manager. After a while she came back to say nothing could be done and I had to pay for both rooms. The hotel said I should contact the platform directly because it had nothing to do with them, though it's their booking platform and the hotel is responsible for the way it works. It was already difficult to find the cancellation option on the site, and it seemed to me the subcontractor might do this on purpose. I've stayed here three times before and quite enjoyed it, but the spa doesn't open in the morning, the towels had holes, the room was rather small, and the bathroom was old. All in all, still a nice hotel, but this booking issue was my main problem this time.

The minibar deposit is the one thing that lets this otherwise great hotel down. It's over 100 euro for a few miniatures, a Mars bar, and a packet of Pringles. If you pay by card, it can take a week or so to get the money back. Paying cash and checking out early? Sort it out the night before. Take pictures of what's in the minibar when you arrive, too, or be ready for a conversation with staff to get your deposit returned. The photos settled things quickly.
