Penzión ARIES

It's a fairly new guesthouse close to the center, with shops like Lidl, Tesco and Gallery nearby. Rooms are standard, with a clean bathroom and a large shower. Street parking is available. Reception is basically open around the clock if you arrange the times in advance.

It looks like a nice guesthouse from outside, but the rooms felt uninviting and were dirty, with spiders and cobwebs. Parking was bad too. Probably won't come back. Once was enough.

For the price, this was clean and cozy, and I was satisfied with the stay. I'd happily return.

The location was handy, with the city center close by and Lidl and Tesco nearby. But our stay was a mess from the moment we arrived. We were told there were no room keys for us because the previous guests hadn't returned theirs and there were no spares. We spent the first night in an unlocked room; the lock was changed the next day and then we got keys. The room was extremely dirty. We travel a lot and have never seen anything like it. The shower was covered in mold, the sheet was stained and the bedding hadn't been changed after the previous guests. There was hair everywhere. The kitchen counter and sink were dirty, dishes in the cupboards were sticky with grease and dirt, the carpet was stained, and the furniture was wet. The bathroom door was hard to open because the tile was sticking. We tried to tell the staff right away, but nobody was there. Other guests trying to check in told us they had been sent by phone to the ABC Hotel on the other side of town because Aries had no rooms. They had a Booking confirmation, yet at 10:30 PM the owner told them they wouldn't be checked in because there were no rooms available. Shocking. We reported everything to Booking, but they couldn't reach the property and sent us a ridiculous €10 compensation. The next day we finally met a staff member and asked for the room to be cleaned. She said we had to pay extra because we DIDN'T SAY WE WANTED A CLEAN ROOM. When we showed her photos, she quickly changed her mind and went to clean it. I paid the €10 fee for one dog at check-in. After the discussion about cleaning, I was told there would be another €5 for each dog because the manager had changed his mind. I don't know how much was the employee's responsibility and how much was the manager's, but that pathetic receptionist definitely shouldn't be working there anymore. She had no basic manners or common sense, and her appearance wasn't inviting either. When we were furious and said we wouldn't pay extra for such a mess, she stood up, threw the papers on the desk and left the hotel. It was Friday, and we didn't see her again until Sunday. The staff only speak Slovak, so communication is possible using a translator on the phone.
