Hotel Slovakia

Breakfast was okay, with sausages, fruit, and vegetables, until the free coffee machine spoiled it for me. The room smelled, and I doubt anyone was vacuuming. The bathroom was dirty, with a sewage odor and hair that definitely wasn't mine. I also found the biggest, oldest TV I've ever seen. This "hotel" feels like going back in time. I wouldn't recommend it under any circumstances.

The room was clean and cozy, but far too hot. There was no way to turn down the radiator.

The breakfast was good for the price, with enough choice of food and drinks, and it was served in a quiet spot. The pop-rock background music could be more relaxing, though. The receptionist was cordial and check-out was quick. Still, this is clearly a place for one night, two at most. It needs renovation. The look is like 1980s Czechoslovakia, and that style could stay if they fixed things up. The bed felt quite firm but was comfortable. The TV looked like an old 1980s deep-screen set with poor picture quality, and plastic over the windows made it almost impossible to see outside. One sheet had a hole, and there was no minibar. The towels were clean and fine, but there was no shampoo, so I had to wash my hair with shower gel. There was no holder for the shower hose or hairdryer, which was a big inconvenience. The staff should check the elevators too: when I selected a lower floor, it first went up one floor, and I had to press the button again.

The food was excellent, and the place was exceptionally clean and worked well. I was impressed by how professional, friendly, and helpful the staff were; management deserves credit for that. The unfair reviews I'd read turned out to be unjustified. It could certainly use a refit, though.
