Palace Hotel Polom

The vegan meal at the hotel restaurant was awful. Our group got deep-fried tofu without spices or sauce, dry rice, and plain lettuce with no dressing or oil. The pickle was good.

The hotel was clean and reasonably furnished, and the staff were polite. It's conveniently near the railway station and city centre. My bed mattress was okay, and the steam shower had a massage function. I had a deluxe room, so the standard rooms may be less appealing than their pictures suggest. The view was mostly a green wall, with only about 10% actual view. Wi-Fi usability and speed were a joke. Breakfast was poor too: dried-out eggs, sausages as the only other choice, everything cold, low-quality food and little selection. One lift wasn't working, and I got briefly stuck in the other one. It made me wonder whether the hotel invests in upkeep, like changing the air-conditioning filters. An average three-star hotel, make up your own mind.

While taking a break from the train, I wandered around Zilina and stopped at the hotel restaurant. I was really impressed, and the portions were huge, so much for my diet :-)

Helpful staff, a decent breakfast and a good location. The interior looks stylish, but the beds felt narrow to me. We had to switch rooms because the AC was noisy.
