G Hotel Žilina

The receptionist at check-in was helpful and spoke English, which was the one good part of the stay. The room itself was rough: the blanket looked like it had been on the floor, the curtain was coming loose, and I could hear the person next door snoring through the paper thin walls. The WiFi barely worked, and walking back from town after dark felt scary. I gave it two stars for the service, though it felt closer to a one-star hotel.

Everything in the room worked, and it was much cleaner than I expected. The rooms were comfortable too. The hotel sits in a somewhat industrial area, though it's still fairly near the centre, and it gets quite loud with the window open.

Breakfast was the highlight, with a broad spread of eggs, sausages, cereal, yoghurt, cheese, vegetables and fruit. We were only passing through Slovakia, and this might do for a quick overnight stop, but that's about it. It's quite far from the city centre. A busy road runs past the hotel all night, with a factory on the other side, so there was no peace and we couldn't leave the windows open. Ventilation was poor as a result. The rooms are small and worn, and the bathrooms need repairs and have very few amenities.

I spent 14 days here. The rooms themselves weren't bad, but the cleaning was terrible: the bed linen never got changed, and the towels were replaced just once, after seven days. The shared kitchen was in very poor hygienic condition too. WiFi was completely useless.
