dakar International House

My room had loads of mosquitoes and I got bitten badly. I didn't have this problem at my other accommodation. The kitchen is off limits for no good reason, and they say it isn't included in the price. I've never come across that before, it's ridiculous.

The main plus is how cheap it is compared with other places in Dakar. Our double room had no windows, only a fan, and became really hot overnight. The shared bathroom was used by lots of people, staff included, and it was filthy when we left since it wasn't cleaned every day. The kitchen is staff only, so it doesn't feel like a proper hostel.

The staff were friendly, but the place didn't feel much like a hostel. The dorm beds are quite cheap, while the private room isn't worth the money, you can find something better in the city for the same price. There were ants and cockroaches in the room, and the location is poor, far from everything.

The food is simple, filling, and really good value. The staff were very friendly and tried to help, though they didn't always understand what I needed. I asked them to call the bus company about the departure time for a long haul bus to Gambia, but they sent the taxi to the wrong bus station. The place was clean, but had little ventilation and smelled mildewy.
