Twenty4 Hostel

The staff are great, and I gave the hostel a star for their efforts to make up for so much that's gone wrong. The place needs serious maintenance: rotten floorboards, rats in the kitchen, air conditioning that causes respiratory problems, a dirty, lifeless patio, and a general shortage of equipment. The owner needs to invest and get renovation and maintenance supplies here soon.

The garden and bird sounds were lovely and tropical, and the reception staff were really friendly. The location was good, too. But there were lots of mosquitoes, and only one bed had a net, though that's not the hostel's fault. I booked mainly because there was a kitchen, since food intolerances mean I cook for myself. The gas didn't work, and for a whole week I was told each day it would be fixed the next day. I don't know who was responsible, but if I'd known before booking, or even while I was there, I might have chosen somewhere else. I was also told I could pay by card, then learned on arrival there was an extra fee. If I'd known, I'd have exchanged cash, but it was Sunday and I couldn't. The bus information at reception was sometimes wrong, and I ended up wandering around Paramaribo for a few hours.

The rooms are cozy and pleasant, and the staff are very friendly. Breakfast was pretty good. It's an affordable hostel, and I'd recommend it.

The staff were friendly and helpful, and the bathroom itself was fine. But the facilities were in terrible shape. In our double room, the bathroom door was almost falling apart and took force to close. They didn't replenish the toilet paper, and the mattresses were so old I could feel every spring.
