James Hotel Juba

We only went for dinner. Take the elevator straight up to the rooftop, where the views are nice. The menu is big, and the pizza we ordered was good, served on wooden plates. It was quiet on Wednesday evening, though I hear weekends get busy. The bar looks well stocked, and the prices are really good.

I arrived around 7 pm local time. The receptionist was professional, but the service after that, including the room, was terrible. It was too hot, and the bathroom window had no privacy. While I was showering, people across the street could see in. Management also refused some American dollars. They told me the bank they work with had verbally instructed them to reject those particular bills. I plan to pursue this through legal channels so Americans aren’t denied service because banks are picky about certain US dollars.

The pizza is tasty and definitely worth trying. The rooms are very good, and the service is warm. For Juba, the internet is good by local standards. There’s a lift and an open terrace restaurant, all at a very affordable price. It also felt very safe in such a volatile town.

I had one of the most exciting times here with my family. The food was delicious, especially the habeshen dishes they serve. They’re amazing. I recommend the place to everyone.
