City Centro by Marriott San Salvador

The best part might be the top-floor patio. At night, it becomes a lively place to hang out, with a 360-degree view over the Centro skyline. Seeing the library, the Palace, and the cathedral lit up is a sight to behold. Raul, the hotel manager, welcomed me personally. He used to manage at Bellagio in Vegas many years ago, and he’s a lovely person who clearly loves his work. The staff are wonderful and eager to help. The hotel itself is stunning, with a top-notch look after being converted from a theater. It faces the old Presidential palace, in an area that felt extremely safe. People even leave laptops unattended on cafe tables. There are lots of restaurants, cafes, and attractions close by. Expect late-night music and noise, since the plaza is a social space where people dance and hang out. The neighborhood is still changing: the blocks around the polished plaza have new construction, while a few blocks farther up you’ll see older, run-down buildings. That didn’t make the area feel unsafe to me. Things are changing fast, and I wouldn’t be surprised if it looks completely different in a year.

Our room was at the front, with a view of the city. Everything was super clean, and all the staff were so nice. Great hotel, and we’d definitely stay again.

The location and rooftop bar are amazing, and having parking included was nice. Getting around by car was a little difficult because Google Maps didn’t show the streets correctly. I visited from the US when the hotel was new. I’d requested a pack and play, or crib, in advance, but the hotel hadn’t received the request from Marriott because their systems weren’t connected yet. The GM, whose name I believe was Luis, went out and bought one. I really appreciated that.
