Aonang Dugong (SHA Extra Plus)

We had a great stay. The room was modern, recently renovated, spacious, spotless, and just perfect. We also had a nice terrace. It’s really close to the main street, but far enough away that we couldn’t hear the noise. I read a review saying a taxi driver refused to take them to the hotel and they had to climb up. We were luckier: our driver took us there without any trouble. Even if you do have to walk from the main street, it’s an easy route. All in all, a great experience!

The accommodation is central but tucked away and quiet, reached by an uphill side street. It’s manageable, though anyone not in great shape should be ready for the climb. There’s a fantastic family restaurant right across the road. It’s inexpensive, usually busy in the evenings but you can normally get a table quickly, and it’s handy when it rains because food is so close. Dugong is recommendable, and I’d come back. We were unsure after reading online complaints about unfriendly staff and communication, but the woman on the phone assured us we could leave our luggage before check-in. When we arrived, the staff were consistently friendly and easy to communicate with. The room came with extra pool towels and a pool bag. It was cozy, small, and away from the action. There’s only sweetened instant coffee in the room, but reception sells coffee or cappuccino for 40-50 baht, which is reasonable. The room was clean, but the bathroom sometimes smelled unpleasant, like sewage. That’s the one reason I took off a star.

The hotel was easy to find in Grab because locals know it well. The beach is nearby, and nearly every landmark you could visit in Krabi is within walking distance. We had an amazing stay, with a pretty big balcony and a decent-sized room.

Staff were rarely around, and when we did see them, they seemed moody, unfriendly, and uninterested. We even saw staff asleep at reception and inside guest rooms, which is completely unacceptable. Our room was never cleaned during the whole stay, despite us complaining more than once. Bath towels were never changed, and the hand towels were taken away and not replaced. The hotel showed no interest or response to our repeated complaints. One star already feels generous. This behavior doesn’t meet the expectations of a professional hotel.
