The staff were the one bright spot: kind, polite, and professional. Unfortunately, that couldn't make up for how hard it was to sleep or relax here. Noise came from everywhere. Traffic outside, guests talking in the thin-walled corridors, and especially the live band playing at full volume every evening. It felt as if they were performing in our room. We knew the hotel was central, but at this price I'd expect at least basic comfort. Resting was simply impossible. Our room was also dark, with no natural light, and felt like a basement. The pool was uncomfortable to use because birds were constantly bathing in the water. Breakfast was another letdown. Rather than a regular buffet, we could choose only about five items from a much larger à la carte menu. The servings were tiny, almost symbolic, and came with a very small coffee. The hotel should make clear that breakfast is a limited set menu.

I really enjoyed my week here and would stay again if I return to Bangkok. The rooms are competitively priced, and the cafe on the ground floor serves very good food. It costs a little more than some nearby places, but the menu mixes Thai and Western dishes well, and I ate there several times. You can sit outside, in the air-conditioned enclosed area, or under the roof in the open-sided space. Some nights there's live music, which gives the place a nice feel. It's an especially handy base for Bangkok nightlife. Khaosan road is about a 30-second walk away, close enough to head back on foot but far enough to avoid its noise. Several big attractions are also walkable, and there are taxis, grabs, and tuktuk drivers around at all hours. Starbucks and Hungry Jacks/Burger King are on either side of the hotel; cross the road for a Buddhist temple. There are also crowded little lanes nearby with bars, shops, and art galleries to explore. The staff were friendly and quick to help. Their English ranged from basic to good, which helped with communication, and I appreciated how consistent they were with timing and service.

For a 3 star hotel, this is the best you'll get. The place is well located, and the staff are kind and happy to handle requests. The bed was clean and comfortable, there's a safe, and the bathroom was cozy and relaxing with instant hot water. There's also a rooftop pool. I'll definitely come back.

We stayed here three weeks ago and liked it so much that we booked again for this week's Bangkok visit. It was a delight both times. The location is great, the staff are amazing, and the rooms are clean. One of my favourite hotels ever. I'll definitely return.
