I’d choose the dorm at Baan Khun Nine over a private room at most hotels in the same price range. It’s the best hostel I’ve stayed at, and the hotel rooms are good too. The place is nice and clean, and the staff speak both Thai and English.

I’ve stayed in both the hostel and private rooms, and this has become one of my favorite places in Bangkok. It’s a nice, quiet ho(s)tel with good rooms, helpful staff, and no drunk tourists. You’re close to the sights without being right in the tourist area. Wat Arun is about a 5-minute walk away, and from there you can take the ferry across Chao Phraya River to Gran Palace and Wat Poo, then walk to Khao San Road.

During my three months traveling around Asia, this hotel had the best internet connection I came across. Downloads reached 40 Mb/s, with averages between 10 and 20 Mb/s. Internet probably isn’t the only thing you’ll consider when choosing a hotel, but those speeds are very welcome now and then.

The service was good and the rooms are tidy, though the first floor gets a bit hot. Indian food isn’t available here, but there are nearby restaurants where you can find it.

The rooms are clean, and the staff are really helpful and nice. It’s about a 15-minute walk and then one boat ride to the center and the great palace.
