Baiyoke Sky Hotel

The city views from the upper floors were one of the best parts, and the steak stood out. The Chinese and International Buffet was decent, though I'm not sure the food alone is worth the price. I'd go back mainly for the views and the experience. The rooftop bar was small and crowded but had a nice atmosphere, and the buffet came with free drinks. Taking the BTS was convenient, while driving there isn't recommended. Getting around the tower was confusing. First you collect your buffet ticket, either on the ground floor or the 19th floor depending on the day. Then come crowded waiting areas, unclear directions, tight elevators, long waits, and transfers between sets of elevators before you reach the higher floors. Even finding the right floor is tricky because there are several kinds of buffet on different levels. Once seated, the areas for seating and food felt cramped and crowded. Food was reheated at the counters, so it got hot and noisy. The restaurant looked dated and could use a deep clean. Staff were friendly and helpful, though their English was limited. I was surprised to see so few foreigners. I took my wife here for Valentine’s Day. We enjoyed parts of it, but the process felt like an adventure, and I still can't clearly remember how I managed to book through the user-unfriendly online system. The confirmation email says to arrive 30-40 minutes early, but with traffic, nearby construction, and crowds, that doesn't seem realistic. I'd recommend getting there at least an hour ahead, especially with kids.

The location is hard to beat, with a market right outside and plenty of shops within walking distance. The view is INCREDIBLE, and breakfast is much better than a standard continental one. The rooms and beds also seemed pretty good. The pool was nice, though I wish it were on the roof. There's no view from the pool area. The service was disappointing, and some of the arrangements felt deceptive. When I booked, they said my group and I would have king beds, but on arrival we got two smaller beds and were told to “push the beds together.” We also asked to add breakfast to one booking. They said it was done, but then there was a big fiasco at breakfast because it hadn't been added.

The staff provided good service, and the rooms were spacious enough. There's a gym and a swimming pool, plus a cool rooftop bar where you can have a drink and chill out. Breakfast is on the 81st level, with an outdoor option too. There's plenty of shopping nearby, along with lots of local thai food. I usually eat at a local food court. Their outlets generally provide napkins, unlike Singapore, where you have to buy your own. Just keep in mind that traffic is always heavy here because of nearby renovation work and one-way traffic. It will take a long while to finish, 2 years to complete, I hope. The hotel is 84 levels high.

My favorite part was the room views. I was also thrilled to find in house laundry on the pool floor, which saved us a lot of trouble doing stacks of laundry back home. The in house facilities were amazing and prompt. It's a pretty old hotel, but it was decently maintained and a great choice if you want a comfortable stay right in the middle of the shopping area. Special thanks to the concierge, who were super helpful with our storage and changing our taxi timings.
