I keep coming back to Bourbon Street Restaurant & Oyster Bar, a lively, atmospheric spot in Ekkamai that feels like New Orleans. The brick walls, colorful decor, jazz and murals give the place a world of its own, and there are cozy corners for a more intimate meal. The oysters are my must-order every time, always fresh, well shucked and served with great accompaniments. There’s plenty beyond oysters on the menu. Brunch is popular, and the Eggs Benedict and American breakfasts are consistently well made. Burgers and steaks are filling, the cocktails are creative, and the bar staff know what they’re doing. Regulars swear by the Bloody Mary, and the wine list feels thoughtfully chosen. The boutique hotel adds another layer of comfort and care, while the service is warm and knowledgeable. Whether you come for dinner, oysters or the hotel, it’s a world-class experience in the heart of Ekkamai.

Those garlic parmesan wings, ribs, and lamb chops were all cooked just right, with generous portions. Nothing came out cold or dry, and the fries were especially good. My husband and I also liked how comfortable and clean the inviting dining room felt. The staff waited until we'd finished our appetizers before bringing the entrées, and even brought wet towels for our hands since we'd ordered wings and ribs. We’re already looking forward to coming back.

We’ve been trying our way through the menu as a family, and so far the enchiladas, meatloaf, gumbo, breakfast dishes, salads, and Thai food have all been delicious and satisfying. Portions are generous, too. When we order through Grab, everything arrives hot and is packed well. We love this restaurant and highly recommend it.

The chicken tasted pretty good, I think, though I can’t really remember it now. The angel hair came in some kind of heavy cream sauce that made everything set up, so I didn’t eat much. And the servers standing over you watching while you eat felt creepy. Did I really make Ekamai my neighborhood?

Doug has been running this Bangkok restaurant for 39 years, and he makes guests feel very welcome. The place has a homey feel that reminds me of the US, with decor that took real time and effort. I’ve never had a meal here I didn’t enjoy, and the food and value at the buffets are amazing. It even feels a bit like “Cheers” in the middle of Bangkok to me, though I’ve never lived in Louisiana. I’ve recommended it to lots of people, and everyone has loved it. Such a lovely respite in the city.
