Civic Horizon Hotel & Residence

I’ve just checked out after a week, and I won’t stay here again. My son got chocolate on the couch and some on the windows, which I cleaned myself, but the hotel kept my deposit anyway. They said they had photos from the third day, but didn’t check the other days, despite having guaranteed the deposit regardless of whether things were cleaned. Communication was very poor, and they didn’t try to sort it out until checkout. I did the cleaning and still lost the money.

The only thing that disturbed my sleep was noise from the corridors. They’re all hard surfaces, so loud talking and people banging doors carried through at all hours. Otherwise, the room was spacious, clean, and had a comfortable bed with a nice outlook. Double glazing kept the room quiet, and it came with a kitchen, washing machine, and large bath. The staff were friendly, the pool area was calm, and the BTS is nearby.

The rooms have a comfortable, spacious layout, and I liked the pool view. The train station is very close, but the repeated fire alarms made this a stressful stay. They went off at around 3 AM on three different nights in six days. The sound was loud, and I didn’t know whether to evacuate. Reception said smoke had been detected in one room but gave no clear explanation; one night it rang again 15 minutes later. I lost sleep and felt uneasy. Breakfast was disappointing for all six days, with the same limited bread and fruit and little sense of freshness. The lobby often smelled unpleasant, and the pool was under maintenance from 9 AM to 3 PM each day for five days, so it was barely usable.

The room smelled like pee whenever I set the AC above 20°C, but below that it was much too cold. I asked housekeeping for an extra sheet or duvet cover and was told the hotel had none. I then asked them to leave my bed linens unchanged the next day and give me a fresh set instead. Their written reply said I’d have to pay extra. A white guy traveling with me had asked for extra pillows and received them right away, so I called to ask for pillows too. They refused unless I paid. I wanted to see whether the hotel was sexist and racist, and this felt like typical sexist and racist behavior. At the front desk, they dodged the issue and made excuses, without explaining why the supposed same policy seemed to depend on gender and race. Really disappointing. I would not recommend staying here.
